This lively musical film is set in the heart of Deadwood (Dakota Territory). It tells the tale of the tumultuous relationship between tomboy Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok. Although Calamity was usually so darn occupied with fighting Indians and cracking a bullwhip she slowly but surely begins to change her high-stepping tune and fall for her biggest rival. Calamity Jane has to be one of Doris’s best known and most loved characters. Generations have been enchanted by this magical film with its timeless Oscar nominated score by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster. It also contains Doris’s million-selling single Secret Love which won her an Academy Award.
