MPI Home Video release on DVD “The Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff” 1971 TV Special

Fans have been dreaming for years about Doris Day’s first-ever TV special being released on DVD and on the 30 May 2006 their wish is finally granted!

Thanks again to MPI Home Video the first of Doris’s two TV specials from the 1970s arrives on DVD format remastered and restored in all its original glory. The Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff Special will be released concurrently with the third season of The Doris Day Show. Originally broadcast to American audiences on the CBS network in March 1971 the special features some of Doris’s only filmed performances of hit singles and various rare songs (e.g. “Both sides now”, “It’s Magic” and “Sentimental Journey”). It also includes a timeless collaboration with the legendary crooner Perry Como and guest appearance by Rock Hudson. Above is the stunning artwork that is being used for the DVD cover. Although not specifically from the show this shot was taken just a few months prior to the start of taping in March 1970.

The special has been re-titled for DVD release though the actual onscreen title retains the original graphic and appears as it originally aired. Plus there is now an hour of bonus material, including: deleted footage, outtakes, alternate takes, stereo song mixes of some songs featured in the special, extended song versions & an interview with producer Don Genson.
