American reissue label, Real Gone Music, have just
released their all-new ‘Doris Day’ compilation album entitled MUSIC,
MOVIES & MEMORIES showcasing an array of rare
recordings from the GRAMMY Award-winning songstress. What sets this ‘Doris Day’
release aside from others is it is comprised of mainly recordings which have never
appeared on an album/CD or are recently-discovered gems – spanning the 1940s
through to the 1980s.
Without a doubt this release is one of the BIG attractions of Doris Day’s 90th birthday celebrations. Why? Well for one thing it offers more “previously unavailable” songs from the star’s final recording sessions of 1985. As fans will recall Doris’ acclaimed 2011 album ‘My Heart’ debuted other magical recordings from these sessions which resulted in a global media frenzy and Top 10 hit album in the UK. This compilation now delivers Day’s touching folk song about race horse “Wildfire”, a pretty rendition of the 1960s pop hit “Everyone s Gone to the Moon” and our personal favourite her jazzy interpretation of Ringo Starr’s “Octopus’ Garden”.
Also featured on this magnificent CD album is a 1947 rendition of the ‘Show Boat’ musical tune “Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man” by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II, a beautiful 1950s ballad entitled “How Well I Know”, a STEREO version of Doris’ last-ever film song, “Soft as the Starlight” (from the 1966 film ‘The Glass Bottom Boat’), plus a duo of soundtrack selections from her musical ‘Young at Heart’ and an unreleased live version of darling Doris’ multi-million selling signature tune “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)”.
The already more-than-generous helping of Doris Day collectibles are further complimented by the inclusion of three stellar performances from Day’s 1970s CBS-TV variety specials: “The Way We Were” (Barbra Streisand), a medley that closes with “The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)” (Simon & Garfunkel) and the 1930s standard “The Gypsy in My Soul”.
MUSIC, MOVIES & MEMORIES also contains a 1960s promotional radio interview where Doris reflects on her multi-faceted talents plus informative liner notes by acclaimed author Tom Santopietro, other photographs & quotes from Doris!
