TIME magazine picks Doris Day’s ‘Sentimental Journey’ as one of their “100 Greatest Popular Songs”

Doris Day’s version of  the standard ‘Sentimental Journey’  has been selected by critics at TIME magazine as one of their “100 Greatest Popular Songs”.

The single was originally released in 1944 by Les Brown and his Orchestra on the Columbia Records label. A year later, the wartime anthem topped the American Billboard chart and lasted on it for a staggering 23 weeks.

The song was also a multi-million selling hit overseas which made the big-band’s lead singer, Doris Day, a household name outside of her home country. This success ultimately paved the way for the star’s highly successful recording career as a solo pop artist.
