In 1954, Doris Day and Frank Sinatra, two of Hollywood’s biggest recording and screen stars, joined forces for Young At Heart. This movie was a remake by Warner Bros. of their acclaimed 1938 picture Four Daughters. Appropriately, Columbia Records released a 10” album (CL 6339) of songs from the movie on 1 November 1954. However, because of Sinatra’s exclusive contract with rival label Capitol, only Doris could cut new studio recordings for this release. She therefore reprised five beauties from the movie’s soundtrack, which included her solo version of “You My Love”, a song she had originally sung with Frank in the film’s memorable finale scene. The other songs recorded were “Hold Me in Your Arms”, “There’s a Rising Moon”, “Till My Love Comes to Me” (based on Mendelssohn’s “On Wings of Song”) and “Ready, Willing and Able”. The latter song was a Top 10 hit when it was released as a single in the UK.

In lieu of Sinatra’s participation, Columbia was able to represent some of the songs that he had sung in the movie by including recordings made for them during the 1940s. Although Sinatra was known to hold the utmost respect for Doris’s abilities as a songstress, he only ever got to commercially record one duet with her and that was “Let’s Take an Old Fashioned Walk” (a Top 20 American single of 1949). The new songs Doris cut for this album were recorded 24 Sept & 8 Oct 1954.
